Event Coordinator
Sigung Earl Portnoy brings over two decades of teaching experience and a wealth of martial arts expertise to his students. He holds Master Status in the Soo Hwa Kung Fu system, and has earned black belts in multiple disciplines—demonstrating his depth across traditional Chinese martial arts.
Training & Specializations
He not only practices but also instructs a broad spectrum of martial art styles, including weaponry, Jujitsu, Chin Na, Wing Chun, and Kenpo. His approach blends practical technique with holistic training, often incorporating controlled breathing and movement exercises to support stress management.
Community & Safety Engagement
Committed to empowering others through self-defense, Sigung Portnoy has volunteered his expertise with the Collin County Women's Shelter, and has supported numerous child safety and women's safety programs. He also currently serves as Chairman for the AAU Southwestern Association of Chinese Martial Arts.
He continues to offer custom safety training sessions tailored to groups such as PTAs, churches, Scout troops, corporations, and more. His classes are interactive, inclusive, and designed to foster participation and confidence.
Training Model & Philosophy
At the Martial Arts Center of Plano, Sigung Portnoy employs a hybrid instruction model: students receive one private lesson per week coupled with unlimited group classes. This format allows for:
-
Personalized one-on-one teaching to refine techniques and build confidence
-
Group sessions that reinforce skills and enhance conditioning
-
Community-building through events like training lock-ins, martial-arts outings, and camping trips.
Students benefit not only physically—improving balance, coordination, stamina, and technique—but also mentally, gaining self-confidence and an enhanced ability to analyze and respond to real-life situations.
